heimaey town and lava flow

Heimaey Town and Lava FLow

The island of Heimaey is a very interesting part of Iceland. The town was nearly destroyed by a lava flow, but was saved by the local fire department.

The landscape seems bleak, but is thriving with both plant and animal life.
