Cartagena has become a favorite port for us in Spain, and fortunately, the Maasdam stopped there on this cruise in 2013.
(On a previous cruise, we stopped for a day, but it was raining so hard, we couldn't even see the end of the pier.)
This time, we enjoyed a beautiful day, and walked around the city near the marina.
There are many beautiful buildings in this part of town.
The main square near the pier has many monuments to Spanish seamen, including those who died fighting the U. S. in the Spanish-American War of 1898. Note that Cartagena is a major port for the Spanish Navy.
There is a restored Roman Theatre in town, and we were able to see it, standing above the rooftops of the city.
