Your machine cancel was most likely made by a machine sold by the Doremus Company. There was a rare cancel machine that impressed dashed lines as a receiving mark. The much more common Doremus machine is designated as the type 'C'. This machine had a killer made up of dotted horizontal lines. Another machine type from this company impressed dashed horizontal lines.
