Stavanger, Norway, 2014

oil rig maintenance ship

We were fascinated by our stop in Stavanger, Norway. This town is a major center of the oil industry for the North Sea. It is also a historical seaport, but it really boomed with the North Sea discoveries.

The Museum for the oil industry is well worth a long visit. They have scale models of the massive North Sea rigs, along with models of the maintenance and supply ships used to service these huge structures. One of the displays at the Museum includes most of the structure and machinery for an older, operating, oil rig.
